SINOPSIS
We are creating a multimodal bilingual (Murui-Spanish) book based on ancient Murui knowledge of vegetable salts, the result of more than 30 years of intercultural research, between Murui elder Enokakuiodo and the anthropologist Juan Álvaro Echeverri.
This book brings together textual materials, drawings, botanical specimens, pictures and sound recordings. It is conceived both as an introduction to this body of knowledge and as a guide for navigating human and ecological challenges. It demonstrates that healing and collective care avrise from the transformative bond among humanity, the natural entities and the moral cosmology of the living Amazon forest.
AUDIENCIES
Enokakuiodo’s descendants that are based in the Amazon and in different cities of Colombia.
Murui communities in the Amazon and in the diaspora within Colombia.
Broader audience interested in indigenous wisdom and the use of vegetable salts for individual and conservation purposes.
We are currently seeking funding to finalize the edition and publication of the book.
Our goal is $60.000
CURRENT STATE OF THE PROJECT
This body of knowledge was first published in 2020 as a comprehensive 1,520-page bilingual Murui–Spanish volume, later condensed into a 450 page manuscript that earned the Colombian Fundación Alejandro Ángel Escobar Award in “Biodiversity and Sustainable Development.”
In 2024, we convened a collective of writers and artists to revisit and further develop this manuscript. Our work extends beyond editing. We seek to transform an academic text into an art-book experience that can engage and resonate with broader audiences. For more than two years, we have carried on without external support, driven solely by our shared commitment to meet, study, and prepare the editing and creation of this unique book.
WE AIM TO
1.Produce a book through careful editing, murui-spanish translation review, and refinement of the writing style.
2. Create a visual design through the thoughtful selection of graphic elements aligned with the artistic vision of the book and its audience.
3.Prepare the book for publication ensuring it meets standard formatting and production requirements suited to the target audience.
4.Build a distribution plan to connect the book with its intended audience through outreach strategies.
5.Measure the book’s impact by testing it in real settings, such as workshops and dialogues with different audiences.
